te POOKa is a performing arts charity dedicated to inspiring the public through performances and workshops for community, corporate and private clients.
Performing throughout the UK and abroad, te POOKa provokes and delights audiences in city streets, ancient forests, international festivals, formal ballrooms and remote island villages.
We actively promote public participation, sustainability and heritage education, reaching new audiences and underexposed communities wherever possible.
te POOKa performances take many forms: fireshows (with bespoke music and/or live drumming); walkabout characters ranging from the sublime (e.g. angels) to the ridiculous (e.g. gargoyles); solo/smaller circus acts (e.g. aerial/trapeze, juggling, stiltwalking); woodland shows (a mixture of physical theatre, circus and fire, based around local myths and legends).
We also cater for corporate events, offering bespoke entertainment and meet'n'greet characters. Contact us for more information. (Please replace the AT with an @ and the DOT with a . We're trying to stay spam-free.)
Our classes and workshops cover a range of activities such as circus skills, recycled art, construction arts (e.g. paper lanterns, withy structures, drumming).
We can provide workshops for all ages. Our primary focus is always to engage, enlighten, entertain and have fun!
Again we also cater for the corporate market - making teambuilding workshops interesting, fun and informative. Contact us for more information. (Please replace the AT with an @ and the DOT with a . We're trying to stay spam-free.)
Alongside our work in other places for our clients, from time to time we also run a variety of classes and courses at our base the Big Red Door in Edinburgh e.g. aerial/trapeze, circus skills (juggling, poi and staff spinning, acrobatics, stilting etc.), drums and percussion, costume making.
As of August 2008 the Big Red Door has also become an occasional licenced venue for all kinds of circus-based activity and performance.
Check our News page for information on upcoming classes.
